Cubit® 17.04 Released April 24, 2025

The CompSim-Geometry and Meshing Team is pleased to announce Version 17.04 of the Cubit® Geometry and Mesh Generation Toolkit. The following is a sampling of new capabilities and improvements introduced in Cubit® 17.04. See the Cubit® 17.04 Release Notes for a complete list, which includes many resolved user tickets and new capabilities developed in support of the Next Generation Simulation (NGS) initiative.

What’s New…

Geometry

  • Enhanced recognition of bolt features and improved patch reductions
  • New default parameter in ‘simplify’ command simplifies larger patches and better aligns with customer expectations

Graphical User Interface

  • Improved accuracy while selecting entities in graphics window in perspective mode
  • Better support for modern desktops with user interface upgraded to Qt6
  • Low resolution icons replaced by SVG icons, so they will stay sharp at any resolution

Input/Output

  • Cubit now avoids inverting tiny wedge elements during import

Miscellaneous

  • Improved support for python virtual environments
  • Improved stability by removing ability for groups to include other groups in a circular fashion

How to Get it…

Cubit® is available to anyone on the Sandia LANs. Cubit® 17.04 will now run automatically from the Linux command prompt, replacing Cubit® 17.02. It is also licensed free of charge for government use outside of Sandia. If you are a current Cubit® licensed user, you may get Cubit® 17.04 by visiting and following the instructions on the Cubit® Download page.
