CUBIT Tutorials
Tutorial Sessions
One day introductory tutorial sessions are held at approximately six month intervals at Sandia National Laboratories, and at other DOE facilities as demand requires. The tutorial covers basic usage of the CUBIT graphical user interface, geometry modification and simplification, meshing algorithms, boundary condition assignment, and mesh quality principles. Special emphasis is on using CUBIT for preparing and decomposing geometric models for all-hexahedral meshing methods. Tutorials are typically held in a training facility with CUBIT installed for hands-on training for up to about 20 individuals at once. Students are encouraged to bring current projects as time is allotted at the end for individual assistance with mesh generation problems.
Scheduled Tutorial Sessions
The following is a list of planned CUBIT tutorials. When the date is set, get in touch with the appropriate contact to reserve a space. These sessions are scheduled for DOE/DOD personnel and DOE/DOD contractors and are free of charge. Others may request to attend subject to the visitor requirements of the individual DOE facility and as space is available.
CUBIT Basic Tutorial
This is a full-day hands-on introduction to using CUBIT. It provides a basic introduction to using the graphical user interface, and managing the workflow for preparing and meshing a CAD model. It includes manipulating and editing the model, using geometry tools for decomposition, meshing the solid model using tet or hex methods, checking mesh quality, assigning boundary conditions and exporting the model for use in a finite element analysis code. Example models will be provided. Please bring your own laptop with the latest version of CUBIT installed. A limited number of laptops are available for use. Contact Kevin Pendley if you would like to reserve a laptop.
Advanced Tutorial
This is a full-day advanced course using the finite element mesh generation tool, Cubit. The Advanced Cubit Tutorial will offer hands-on experience with some advanced features of Cubit. The course may cover topics such as mesh quality, smoothing, and geometry modification and cleanup. Users are encouraged to bring a (non-OUO) model on a CD or thumb drive to get help from the tutors. Some example models will be provided. Please bring your own laptop with the latest version of CUBIT installed. A limited number of laptops are available for use. Contact Kevin Pendley if you would like to reserve a laptop.
